Every few months, we see at least one news article featuring a car crash that involved a vehicle driving into a home or commercial building.  In many cases, the occupants of house feel a jolt and hear the crash, but are fortunately not injured in the crash. However, in other cases, people in the home or business are seriously injured as a result of the negligence of the at-fault driver.

narrow-street-1327674-m-300x225According to a recent news article from ABC 10, a car was allegedly making a sharp turn at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle.  Witnesses say once the driver lost control of his vehicle in this deadly car accident that occurred around 8 a.m., he crashed into a number of trash cans and then a large electrical transformer box that was on the edge of the street.  Continue reading

According to a recent report from the New York Daily News, the wife of Monty Williams was killed in a tragic car accident.  Williams, a former guard for the New York Nicks and former head coach for the New Orleans Pelicans is currently an assistant coach for the Thunder.

that-hurt-494062-m-300x216Authorities say Williams’ 44-year-old wife was involved a fatal car crash earlier this week on Tuesday night.  She was treated by first responders and taken to a local level-one trauma center for surgery, but, unfortunately, doctors were unable to save her due to the extent of her injuries, and they pronounced her dead the following night. helicopter-1335914-mA recent news article from the Boston Globe reports on an accident in Worcester County, Massachusetts in which 17-year-old girl was killed and her 15-year-old brother was severely injured. Authorities have said the accident occurred in the morning while the two siblings were driving to school.  At some point, the car drove off the road and crashed into a tree.  Continue reading

According to a recent report from the Boston Globe, Ray Flynn, former mayor of Boston, was just involved in a car accident while driving home from the gym.  He reportedly crashed his car into his neighbor’s South Boston home, which now has a large hole in the brick basement wall.

p-use-ya-blinka-sign-300x184Authorities say the 76-year-old man was returning home from a late morning workout at the Boston Athletic Club and was attempting to parallel park his car on the street in front of his neighbor’s home.  At this point, Flynn allegedly “lost his bearings” and also lost consciousness.  Flynn said that when he woke up a few minutes later, he realized that his car had crashed into his neighbor’s home.  Continue reading

According to a recent news report from the New Hampshire Union Leader, an 81-year-old nun surrendered herself to authorities after allegedly fleeing the scene of a car accident. Authorities say defendant, who has now been released on bail, crashed into a car outside a shopping mall during the last of the Christmas shopping rush last year and left the scene immediately thereafter.

nun-1437922However, before she was able to get way from the scene of the car accident, the owner of the vehicle she allegedly hit managed to write down her license plate number and gave it to local police. Victim also told police that defendant hit her in the rear of her vehicle, and she and defendant both stepped out of their respective cars to exchange information. After the two women spoke for a few minutes, victim says she reached into her car to get some paperwork, and, when she turned back around, defendant had allegedly fled the scene. Continue reading

According to a recent news feature from the Washington Post, witnesses reported a Toyota SUV driving from Boston’s Chinatown Neighborhood to Dorchester with a woman trapped beneath the undercarriage of the vehicle. They reported seeing her legs extending from under the rear bumper on this ride of several miles in length after the car crashed into two pedestrians in Chinatown and dragged one of them, a middle-aged woman.

mQo4CWyWitnesses also said the woman could clearly be heard screaming as the SUV was dragging her down the bumpy streets of downtown Boston. One of the witnesses said she first thought the screaming was some type of car alarm. Continue reading

For the past few weeks, the Boston Globe has been following the trial of a defendant charged in connection with a serious car accident that occurred on the Arborway in the city’s Jamaica Plain neighborhood. To summarize the evidence presented at trial by the Office of the District Attorney for Suffolk County (Boston prosecutor), defendant was driving 60 miles per hour on a road with a speed limit of 30 miles per hour.

nightmotorwaylightsThe evidence showed he was traveling at what was called a reckless speed while going around a significant curve in the road, and he lost control of his vehicle. At this point, he drove into a median, which caused the car to roll over, and, while tumbling, it crashed into victim’s pickup truck. Continue reading

According to a recent news article in the Boston Globe, Darius Fleming, a linebacker for the New England Patriots, is being called a hero after he sustained an injury pulling a woman from her car after she was involved in a car accident in Foxboro.

fire-brigade-759827-mWitnesses say the woman was involved in a three-car accident just outside of Gillette Stadium along Route 1.   When Fleming arrived, he saw that the victim was trapped in her car, and there appeared to be smoke coming from it, so he believed the vehicle was on fire. As it turns out, the car was not on fire, but it was dust and smoke from the airbag deployment. It is common for people to think the car is on fire after an airbag deploys. There is also often a burning smell from the charge that deployed the airbag. Continue reading

Often times, when you are out on the highway, you will see parts of the tire from a large truck lying on the pavement. This by itself can be a dangerous road hazard, and you may have to take evasive action to avoid the steel-belted rubber. However, it is when the tire first comes off the truck that it is most dangerous.

tire1While some over the road truck drivers have a trailer that they use all the time and wait for it to get loaded and unloaded, many drivers simply drop off their empty trailer at distribution center loading dock and pick up a full trailer for the next trip. These trailers often do not get the maintenance they need, and they certainly do NOT get the care given to the driver’s tractor. Continue reading

Sometimes we come across an article in the paper, or, more likely on somebody’s Facebook feed these days, and it’s an article about a serious car accident. While we may read a description of the how the car accident occurred and feel sorry for the victims and their families, most people do not realize just how much of a lasting effect a serious car accident can have on those victims and their families unless they have lived through a similar experience themselves.
