According to a recent news report from the Washington Post, a major collision occurred between a passenger train and semi tractor-trailer fuel tank.  The passenger train was carrying around 100 passengers, and the tanker truck was carrying a highly flammable fuel oil.

trainThis major accident occurred around noon as the train was carrying passengers along the heavily used, but aging, Northeast Corridor tracks used for the Northeast Regional service, the Acela Express, and the various freight trains. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries in this truck and train accident, including the passengers on the train and he driver of the tanker truck. Continue reading

Kristen Johnson, better known by her stage name Lady Houdini, is an escape artist who is considered by many to be the world’s leading female escape artist and performs for crowds across the world and on television. However, she was reportedly unable to escape injury resulting from a recent car accident. She canceled a series of performances after she suffered personal injury as a result of a car crash, according to a recent news article from the Sun Sentinel.

drivingJohnson’s accident involved her vehicle and one other and occurred the evening before she was scheduled to do a show in Florida.  At that show, she was supposed to perform an escape from a clear “water torture cell” in full view of the audience, as well as an escape that involved her hanging upside down and wearing a straight jacket.  These are, of course, the same or similar types of escapes made famous by the legendary escape artist Harry Houdini. According to CBS Local Boston, Falmouth High School hockey players held a memorial in honor of the two players who had been killed in a car accident. This was their first game back on the ice since the tragic event, and emotions where high on the ice and in the crowd.

crashOn that day, two hockey players for the Falmouth Clippers had just finished a Friday afternoon skate and were only a mile and half from the ice rink when they were involved in what turned out to a double fatal car accident.  Both of the victims were not only on the team, but were very close friends. Residents of one small suburban neighborhood were shocked by what they have described as a bizarre car crash, according to a recent report from KOMO News.  The crash occurred when one car crashed into a row of parked cars with enough force to essentially slide under one of the cars, wedging it into a vertical position such that the brake lights were facing the sky, before it toppled back over onto the car that allegedly caused the accident.

crashThe police were called to the scene, and after paramedics checked to make sure nobody was seriously injured as a result of this car accident, officers began conducting an investigation into the cause of this accident.  They did not find any evidence that alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident and believe that the driver of the car that crashed suffered some type of medical emergency at which point he or she lost control of the vehicle. According to a recent news report from Entertainment Weekly, Savannah Chrisley, start of the reality television show, “Chrisley Knows Best”, suffered broken vertebrae as a result of a serious car accident.  In addition to the broken vertebrae, Chrisley has said she is also experienced a great deal of pain throughout her entire body.

carThe 19-year-old star released an Instagram post that showed a picture of herself in a hospital bed wearing a cervical collar brace, which is the type of neck brace often used for victims of serious accidents when it is necessary to keep the head and neck stabilized.   In her Instagram post, the young star stated that she was driving and her floor mat had shifted so it became lodged behind the vehicle’s pedals.  She then looked down briefly to try to move it away from the pedals. According to a recent report from the Boston Globe, one person was killed in what has been described as a fiery car accident that occurred on Route 125 in Andover.  The accident involved a semi tractor-trailer and a minivan.

unusual-dumper-217365-m-300x200Authorities say the large commercial truck was stopped at a traffic light when it was rear ended by the minivan.  The minivan hit the underride bar on the rear of the truck.  The underride bar or guard is the large horizontal bar that is often covered with red and white reflective decals. One of the most dangerous things that can happen during in a car accident is a person being ejected from the vehicle. This can often result in serious personal injury or death.  According to a recent news article from The Patriot Ledger, one teen was severely injured after being ejected from a car in Quincy, just outside of Boston.

police lineAuthorities have said the crash involved two cars and occurred a few minutes before 3 p.m. One vehicle was being driven west when the driver left the appropriate lane of travel and crossed over the center median, facing opposing traffic head-on.  At this point, the sedan crashed into a Jeep.  There were two occupants in the sedan.  One of those in the sedan was a teen, who was ejected from the vehicle.  The teen was severely injured and rushed to Boston Medical Center for treatment.  His condition is unknown, but his injuries are believed to be life-threatening. According to a recent news article from CBS Boston, two women were killed in a fiery car accident in Templeton.  Massachusetts State Police (MSP) are investigation this double-fatal crash, and are still working to determine why it occurred.

crashWitnesses have said the 2010 Mercedes vehicle was traveling down Route 2 outside of Boston when it abruptly left the road service.  It is not clear why the vehicle left the road, but after leaving Route 2, the car went flying down an embankment and crashed into a support structure for an overpass. According to a recent news article from CBS News, a study from AAA has determined that the risks of driving while drowsy are commensurate with the risks of driving while intoxicated.  The study focused on drivers who are not getting enough sleep at night and found that drivers who miss out on as little as two hours of sleep a night are four times more likely to get into a car accident than those who sleep a full seven hours per night.

sleepyThe article looks at the data but also the story of a woman whose 18-year-old son was killed in a Missouri car accident near the end of his senior year of high school.  In that crash, her son was driving during the afternoon when his car skidded across three lanes of traffic until it rolled over and flipped multiple times.  The car stopped when it slammed into a tree, and her son was killed.
