According to a recent news article from the Boston Globe, a Massachusetts State Police trooper was seriously injured in a crash on the Massachusetts Turnpike (Mass Pike). Authorities say trooper was conducting a work detail in a Ford Explorer owned by MSP when a truck hit his vehicle. First, a detail is when an officer is off duty officially but being paid to watch a construction sight. This money is paid from the construction company and given to the trooper.

1235172_beeThe trooper was seriously injured in the car accident and was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) in Boston. Doctors were still evaluating the total extent of his injures.  Troopers have not release any information about the driver of the semi tractor-trailer or whether he was injured. Continue reading

Authorities are reporting that an Amtrak train carrying about 150 passengers collided with the rear of a large, oversized-load trailer that managed to get in in the railroad crossing as the train was approaching according to WSPY.

Fortunately, there were no life-threatening injuries as result of what could have been a much more serious train accident. Police say the driver of the truck and the train engineer were both able walk away from the accident. There was passenger on the train that complained of some type of injury, and he was taken to a local hospital. Continue reading

According to a recent article form the Salem News, a 50-year-old woman and her friend were riding their bikes in Salem, when she was hit by a horse trailer being towed by a pickup truck. It was at first considered to be a hit-and-run accident, because the driver of the vehicle never stopped to see what happened to the victim, but authorities were not certain the driver knew his trailer had hit a bicycle rider.

nriv4oeThere was, however, no question the victim knew the horse trailer hit her. When first responders arrived, they determined she had suffered life-threatening injuries, and they called for a medevac helicopter to transport her Boston Medical Center’s trauma center. When she arrived at the hospital, she was immediately taken into an emergency room, where they tested her for brain damage and paralysis. She was also treated for her broken collarbone, shoulder, elbow and skull fractures. According to a recent news report from NECN, an elderly woman allegedly crashed her car into a health club in the greater Boston area.   Authorities are saying the 82-year-old woman was trying to park in a handicapped parking space at the gym when she allegedly stepped on the gas pedal instead of the brake pedal. The wall to health club was an exterior wall, but luckily it was a load-bearing wall and car was able to drive through it without the driver being seriously injured. There was also a male passenger in the vehicle that crashed into the Boston Sports Club gym.

crashedcarWitnesses say the car entered the building at a relatively slow speed and kept rolling through a physical therapy office located inside the fitness center. A manager at the gym was in her office next to where the car had entered the building and could not believe what she was seeing.   Paramedics responded to the scene of the accident, as did the police. First responders determined that the driver was not seriously injured but was understandably shaken up as a result of what happened. The male passenger meanwhile decided the best thing for him to do was go into the gym for his workout, since that was the reason they came to the fitness center that day.   After they determined the passenger was not injured, they said it was okay for him to go into the gym, as did gym management. Rapper Fetty Wap was recently involved in a serious motorcycle accident. The accident occurred on October 3, 2015 in his hometown of Paterson, New Jersey. Authorities say Fetty Wap was riding his motorcycle when a car was blocking his lane of travel. He allegedly went into the lane of oncoming traffic to get around the car obstructing him and was involved in collision with a car coming toward him. It was also reported that Fetty Wap claimed he never saw the other car coming before he collided with it.

His family thanked everyone for their support but asked that they respect his privacy during his recovery from this serious motorcycle accident. Continue reading

According to a recent news feature from WCVB Boston, a man allegedly drove an SUV into a crowd of people who were attending an auto auction. This serious car crash occurred in Framingham in the greater Boston area.

Authorities say the 78-year-old man was behind the wheel of a BMW when the vehicle began to accelerate unexpectedly and hit several people and cars at the auction house. One witness said he heard a lot of noise and saw people running in every direction. He said there were a lot of banging and crashing sounds. First responders were immediately called to the scene of the accident. One person was very seriously injured and was taken by medevac helicopter to a level-one trauma center in Boston.   Continue reading

Most people heard that Caitlyn Jenner, formally known as Bruce Jenner, prior to becoming Caitlyn, was involved in a deadly four-car accident. There has been a lot of speculation about whether she would be charged with negligent homicide in connection with this tragic accident, and the prosecutor’s office even said they were contemplating the possibility.

that-hurt-494062-mAccording to a recent report from Fox News via the CNN wire service, prosecutors will not be charging Caitlyn Jenner with any crimes in connection with the fatal car accident. Specifically, prosecutors said they completed a charge evaluation worksheet and determined there was not sufficient evidence to prove she was driving in a criminally negligent manner. As she was not suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the deadly car accident, there would be no basis to charge her with a felony, so the only charge would have been a misdemeanor vehicle manslaughter charge. According to a recent article from Radar Online, Real Housewives of New York star Jill Zarin was sent to the hospital after being found unconscious in her car. According to witnesses, she was riding in her car with her publicist on her to way to a publicity event for her movie, Night of the Wild. The driver of the car allegedly slammed on his brakes and crashed into the wreckage of a three-car accident ahead of them on the road.

While it is very common for people not to wear a seatbelt when riding in the rear of a vehicle, statistics do show that wearing a seatbelt in the rear of the vehicle significantly decreases a passenger’s chance of being injured in a serious car accident. According to a recent news article from Fox News, doctors performed a first of its kind operation and were able to successfully reattach the head of a toddler who had actually been decapitated in a serious car accident.

457973__1The accident occurred in Australia while the family was driving their car, and there was serious collision between their car and another vehicle. The mother in the driver’s seat said she was saved by the airbags, but her toddler was not so lucky. She said his neck was broken, and he was airlifted to the hospital, where one of the most well known spinal surgeons learned that the child’s spinal cord had broken and separated from the child’s brain. Medically, this is considered a decapitation, though the skin and muscle tissue in the child’s neck was still intact. For this reason, doctors use the term internal decapitation to describe this type of injury. Continue reading

Anyone who lives in Boston has probably seen the Duck Tours boats riding around the streets or in the Charles River. The duck boats used in Boston, and various other tourist destinations around that world, are mainly World War II surplus amphibious vehicles designated as DUKWs. These DUKWs, nicknamed Ducks, by service members, are six-axle modified trucks designed to run on land and in water as a boat complete with a rudder and propeller. The vehicles were used to carry troops over rivers and beaches during invasions in the European theater of operations.

However, some still survive, and many of these are used give tours around Boston and other cities. The ones in Boston are given names like “Haymarket Hannah” and have become a very popular tourist attraction. Continue reading
